The easy fix would be if we could wave a legally binding magic wand and get the MLB out of the horrible contract they signed to these two companies and move their coverage elsewhere. If I could do such a thing my solutions would be 3 very simple letters, NBC. Dig if you will this picture…
NBC’s sports division is sadly underused these days and with some of the talent that they employ that is a shame. I’d love for them to have a game of the week for baseball during the summer like they do for the NFL. Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann could host the studio shows and actually be both informed and entertaining. Al Michaels and Bob Costas, both who have called multiple World Series and are award winners in their field, could call the games. I am sure they’d have no trouble finding a few former players to fill the same small but effective roles given to their current former NFL’ers to round out these broadcasts. Not to mention the people listed actually like if not love the sport and would give post-season play the type of coverage it deserves. I think I just made my brain hurt with how much better this would be than the coverage we now receive. It would probably make me upset that we only got this once a week, so maybe we could get a Saturday afternoon and Sunday night match-up each week to appease me.
